Banking Hours
Banks in major towns and some villages are open from
9:30 to 16:00 weekdays.
On Thursdays, hours are extended until 18:00. All banks
are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Secure Automatic
Teller Machines (ATMs) are available from 6:00 until
24:00 every day.
Bus transport from / to the airport
A bus service is provided between Vagar Airport and the
terminal in Tórshavn to connect with the flights arrival
and departure. The journey each way takes approx. 55
min.
Climate
The climate is oceanic with an average temperature of
10.8 C (July). In June the Faroe Islands have daylight
almost 24 hours a day.
Clothing
Warm clothes and a raincoat are recommended. Also
recommended are rubber
boots or strong shoes with good soles.
Credit cards
All major credit cards are accepted at larger hotels,
restaurants and shops.
In-flight tax-free goods can also be purchased by credit
card.
Currency
The krone and oyra are the units of currency. The Faroe
Islands have their own bank notes in the denominations
of 1,000/500/100/50 krones. The Danish currency can be
used everywhere.

£ 1 = DKK 11,5. Exchange rate, subject to change.
Customs regulations
Travellers are referred to the general regulations set
by the Customs Authority.

co-operation with the Faroe Islands' Tourist Board.
In-flight catering
Meals and refreshments served are appropriate for the
time of day.
Language
Faroese is a Nordic language, which is closely related
to West Norwegian and
Icelandic. Faroe Islanders are fluent in Danish, and
English is widely spoken.
Luggage
Onboard Atlantic Airways all passengers over the age of
2 are allowed 30 kg of luggage plus 5 kg of hand
luggage. Hand luggage that is carried on board the
plane, is subject to size requirements and must fit
under the seat or in the overhead compartment.
Mobile Phones
The GSM system is now the most commonly used mobile
phone system in the
Faroe Islands. In addition to GSM there are other mobile
phone systems: NMT
450.
Passport
Citizens of all countries require a passport to enter
the Faroe Islands. Please note that citizens of some
countries require an entry visa. Personal
identification, such as driving licence, ID-card or
similar is recommended.
Post offices
Post offices are found in almost all toawns and
villages. The smallest post offices are only open for a
few hours a day, but in the larger towns post offices
are open from 1000 to 1600 Monday to Friday.
Road network
The road network on the Faroe Islands consists of 600 km
of good roads. Most
roads have two lanes and are surfaced with asphalt. Of
the 18 islands, 17 are connected either by bridge,
barrier, ferry or Atlantic Airways' helicopter service.
Shops
Typical opening hours are from 0900 to 1700/1730 on
Monday to Thursday and
up to 1800/1900 on Friday. Shops usually close at 1200/
1400 on Saturday.
However, opening hours may vary.
Stamps
Faroese stamps are collectors¹ items due to their high
quality.
Tax-free shopping
Tax-free goods are available during the flight.
Tickets
Passengers should ensure that names listed on tickets
and other travel documents, are the same as on their
passports.
Time difference
The Faroe Islands are on GMT, and are in the same time
zone as the UK.
Transport in the Faroe Islands
Car ferries, passenger ferries, bus and helicopter
services link the islands together.
